I look forward to the 2010 season excitedly and with much anticipation! This will be the third season that this core group of 6 boys have played together. That would be Marc G., Michael K., Michael P., Peter J., Spenser H. and Wyatt W. We added Michael S. and Austin K. last year. These eight young men will represent far more returning varsity experience than we started with last year and we had a season to be proud of last year with a 15-5 overall record and a second place finish in our division.
Of this group we return the leading server by % of good serves, the leading server by total # of aces and the leading setter on the team last year along with what I'm anticipating will be 2 or 3 dominate hitters this year and a much improved bunch of passing and digging. Yes, we start out with much more returning varsity experience, not to mention that I gained invaluable lessons on how to work at the varsity level last year.
I'm pleased to announce that we will once again have the invaluable experience of Charlie Salamone to continue the development of the boys. He was a tremendous help last year along with the fundamentals that I learned from him, so we plan to pick back up right where we left off.
I'm sure the other teams may have also gotten more talented, but I have a lot of confidence in this group of young men. Watching most of them in basketball this year, I see that they are far more athletically mature than last year and that also bodes well for them. I'm hoping that we can add a few younger players to this bunch and we will have a great year in store.
We will get an earlier start this year as I have spoken to Diane and I'm expecting formal sign-up sheets to come out in early Feburary. I will try to get a couple of practices in (3-4) in Feburary but I will keep that to a minimum until basketball ends. We should be in full practice mode by the first week in March which will be 3-4 days/week until the season starts.
I'm also working to get the Canisius volleyball team to come to us for a "clinic" day and will get that on the schedule as soon as I can get a commitment. Tom Weislo at Canisius had offered this to me in December, but so far I haven't been able to get an okay and a date worked out.
As always, you can check this page for any pertinent information, our schedule of practices and matches and copies of any Parent Communications that I send home. The school locations and maps are still here and I will add any new ones to the library.
See you on the court!
