St, Peter & Paul (B) - Match 2

E-mail Print PDF

The boys responded well and played up to speed in the second match of the day as we prevailed.  Serving the first game was led by Spenser H. with 7 good and 4 for ace followed by Marc G. with 5 and 3 for ace and Alex H. with 3.  We hit the ball much better and were led by Marc G. with 3 hits, 1 for kill and Mike P. and Jake C. both with 2 for kill. Setting was led by Alex H. and Mike S. both with 3 good ones.  Passing was led by Mike S. with 6, Alex H. with 5 and Spenser H. with 4.  Mike P. recorded a block in this game.  We won this game 25 - 11.

In the second game we continued the trend of better play.  In a season first, Mike P. led the team with 8 good serves and 1 of those for ace so congratulations goes out as he has worked hard to rectify his serve.  Mike S. also had 6 good serves, 3 for ace followed by Marc G. with 4 and Mike K. with 3.  We didn't hit as well, although with getting 8 ace serves, we didn't get as much opportunity.  Marc G. , Jake C. and Alex H. all had 3 hits with Jake C. recording the only kill.  Setting was led by Alex H. with 3 and Mike S. with 2.  Passing was led by Marc G. and Mike S. with 5,  and Alex H. each with 4.  We won this game 25 - 9 so there was not as much volleying as the first game.

In the third game, we did not defend our serves well or missed a serve as only 2 boys recorded more than 1 good serve.  We were led by Wyatt W. with 3, 1 for ace and Jake L. with 2 good serves.  Hitting was led by Wyatt W. with 4 of which 2 were for kill and Mike K. with 3.  Wyatt W. also recorded a good block of a hit.  Setting was led by Mike K. and Anthony B. both with 3 good sets.  Passing was led by Austin K. with 9, Anthony B. with 8 and both Wyatt W. and  Rob D. with 6 each.  Several had 5 so this was an active game with much volleying.  We did loose this game 25 - 13.

All in all, we played a good match and need to work on some volleying to win more of these rallys.  The statistics for this match are found here.

St. Peter & Paul (A) - Match 1

E-mail Print PDF

The boys played hard but lost our first match of the season.  The St. Peter & Paul team was a very disciplined team and played very well while we made some un-characteristic mistakes and were back on our heels part of the first two games.  Alex H. led the team with 6 good serves and 5 of those for aces with Marc G. placing 4 with 1 for ace.  Everyone else served well as we only missed on 2 serves, but we didn't volley well enough to prevail and thus didn't get into good setting positions to execute our hitting game.  Mike P. had 1 hit for kill while Marc G. and Spenser H. each had 3 hits.  Most of our hits weren't well set up by solid passing thus there were more of a deep hit that a down hit.  Setting was led by Jake C. with 4 and Mike S. with 2.  Passing was led by Jake C. with 10, Mike S. with 9 and Alex H. with 7.  We lost this game 25-17.

In the second game we had trouble serving as they boys seemed to have too much adrenaline in trying to pull it out and hitting the serves hard.  We missed 7 serves and all were just hit hard and slightly long.  When the score was 21-15, we had already missed 6 serves!  Marc. G led us with 5 serves, 2 for ace and Mike S. had 4.  We did fare slightly better this game with hitting with Mike P. recording 3 with 1 for kill and Marc G. had 3 hits with a couple of others with 1.  Setting was led by Mike S. with 4 and Jake C. with 2.  Passing was stronger with Alex H. with 8, Spenser H. with 8 and Jake C. with 6.  We lost this game 25-18 but the volleying was much closer in this game.

In the third game Anthony B. led the team with 5 good serves and 1 of them for ace followed by Mike K. with 2 good and 1 for ace.   As we lost this game 25-13, there was not a lot of serving done.  Hitting was led by Austin K. with 2 good and 1 of them for a kill.  Setting was led by Mike K. with 3 and Austin K. with 2.  The passing totals were led by Anthony B. and Rob D. each with 8 and Mike K. and Jake L. each with 6 passes.

This was a tough test for the team and we face these guys tomorrow night again.  I have faith in the boy's ability to compete and take another shot at this team and with a little bit more focus, a chance to come out on top!  The stats for this match are found here.

In the second game, it was much closer with Wyatt W. leading with 7 serves of which 3 were for ace and Spenser H. recording 6 serves.  Passing was led by Wyatt W. and Austin K. with 4 each and Wyatt W. also had 2 hits for kill to lead in this game.  OLBS made it very close this game as we recorded 12 errors between hitting and passing and eventually won, 25 - 21.

In the third game, Robert D. opened up the game with his first 5 serves in and 4 of those for Aces and lead the team in serving.  Jake C. and Anthony B. also had 3 good serves this game in a loosing effort.  Passing was led by Robert D. with 5 good followed by Austin K. and Jake C. with  3 each.  Hitting was led by Jake L. with 4 and Wyatt W. with 3.  We lost, 21 - 25 but gave this a solid effort.  We ended up missing on 9 serves which was the difference in this game.

NT Catholic - Match 1

E-mail Print PDF

The second match of the night was against NT Catholic and this was our stiffest test yet of the season although we went on to prevail, this was the first loss for NT Catholic this season.  Their team volleys well and makes it tough to get the point if you dont' hit it back firmly at them most of the time.

In the first game, Spenser H. led the team and started off with his first 10 serves for point and 6 were not returned.  Jake C. had 3 and Marc G. also had 4 serves in for this game and we only missed on 1 serve the entire game.  We were led in passing by Jake C. with 11, Mike S. with 9 and Peter J. with 5 good.  Hitting was led by Mike P. with 6 of which 2 were kills and Marc. G. with 4.  We did however hit 2 streches were we did not side-out the team and gave up a 7 and 4 point run which put us tied at 19 after each teams first 5 servers.  We also did not protect 4 of our first 6 servers with each placing a good serve in although we lost the point and showed over 11 passing / hitting errors this game.  We won this game 25  - 22 in the end.

In the second game, our serving and hitting prevailed.  Jake C. got us a lead with 4 good serves and the team supported him with solid passing and hitting.  Marc G. dominated with his serve placing the next  14 in a row in with 8 of them unreturned before missing one!  Jake C. led the team with 6 passes followed by Marc. G. and Alex H. with 5 each.  We had our best hitting game of the season set up by leading setting with 4 for Mike S. and 3 for Jake C.  Mike P. led hitting with 6, 4 of those for kill and put several of these down on single hits by attacking a volley coming over the net.  Alex. H. had 5 hits, 2 for kill and Marc. G had 3 hits with 1 for kill.  A much improved performance for a 25 - 7 win this game.

In the third game, we lost in a good effort, 19 - 25.  Serving was led by Mike K. with 4 followed by Wyatt W. and Anthony B. with 3 each.  Passing was led by Mike K. with 9 and Anthony B. with 7 good ones.  Setting was led by Mike K. with 5 and Anthony B. with 3. Hitting was led by both Wyatt W. with 3, 2 for kill and Austin K. with 3, 1 for kill.  The boys volleyed hard and came close on this one.

Sacred Heart (B) - Match 1

E-mail Print PDF

We now have (2) matches under our belt and the boys performed very well.  In the first game which we won, Spenser H. opened up with 16 consecutive serves in before missing and 10 of those were aces!  Jake C. had 4 and Marc G. had 3 to finish the match, while neither of them missed a serve.  Jake C. led the team with 5 passes while Mark G. had 3 passes while Alex H. had 2 and several others with one.  Marc G. led the team with 3 hits, 2 of those for kill.  Jake C. led the setting with 3 sets.

In the second game we won again with Wyatt W. leading the team with 7 serves, 6 of those for aces while Alex. H. had 4 ace serves and Spenser H. had 4 more serves in.  Michael S. led the team with 6 passes, Mike K. had 6 passes while Anthony B., Alex H. and Spenser H. all had 3 good passes.  Wyatt W. led the hitting with 3 hits while Alex H. and Peter J. each had 2 hits.  Michael S. led the setting with 3 sets while Mike K. added 2 sets.

We also won the third game and Peter J.  and Jake C. both led the serving with 6 good serves each, while Anthony B. contributed 5 serves and Jake L. had 3.  Passing was led by Jake C. with 5 passes followed by Rob D. and Wyatt W. both with 3 passes each.  Rob D. also had the only successful hit of this game, way to go Rob!  Setting was led by Jake C. with 2 sets.

It truly was a team effort as there was very little drop off when we started substituting right away in the start of the second game.  I'm proud of the fact that as a team we only missed 6 serves all day!  That can be a winning formula if we can keep that type of serving up as some of these guys can hit ball pretty hard and/or low and effectively.  I expect the level of competition to pick up next Monday when we have a double-header at home.  The stats for today's match are found by clicking here.
