O'Hara Tourn - Day 1

E-mail Print PDF

We went out and won both opening matches today although we seemed to be in a funk in the second match and had to play our tails off to win this one.  They only stats from the tournament will be serves and hits for kill as it's just me keeping it all.

During the first match against St. Ambrose, we took care of business very nicely and won 25-5 and 25-4.   In fact we were playing defense so well, they only made one of their serves for point out of both games!  We sided them out 8 out of 9 first serves.  In the first game, Mike P. led us with 7 serves, 5 for ace with Alex H. also with 6 good and 5 for ace.  Marc G. recorded 3 hits for kill with Mike P. with 2.  In the second game, Peter J. stepped up to lead the team serving with 13 in a row and 4 of those for ace, way to go Peter!  Wyatt W. led the team with 4 hits for kill.

In the second match, St. John the Baptist played us very hard and we made some un-chacteristic mistakes compared to our recent play.  In the first game we played a little sloppy then settled down and won the game 25-17.  We sided them out on first serve 7 out of 11 times to keep the lead!  We just didn't get on too many extended serving runs other than for Jake C. who led the team with 2 serving runs of 6 and 7 good serves with 2 of them for ace.  Other than that, we only had 1 other server make more than 1 of their serves for point.  Mike P. had 5 hits for kill and Marc G. had 3 for kill.  In the second game though, we kind of fell apart defensively.  We only sided-out their first serve 5 out of 12 times and gave up several serve runs of 2-3 points.  They sided-out or first serve 4 out of our first 6 serves and 3 more times out of the next 6 first serves!  We only had (2) 4 serve runs the entire match.  Serving was led by Mike P. and Marc G. each with 5 good ones.  Hitting was led by Mike P. with 5.  The boys that were subbed stepped up in a big way as I left them in for the second half of this game so the pressure was on them and they performed well.

NT Catholic - Match 2: A Super Contest!

E-mail Print PDF

This was a very exciting match and NT Catholic gave us an excellent match.  We did win the match 3 - 0 although we had to fight for the first two games at times.  NT Catholic played a heck of a match as compared to the first time we faced them as well as our boys played excellent also.  We had very few un-forced errors.

In the first game we won 25-16 after we started in a hole at 7-1!  After their first server we only gave them two serve points where we did not side them out, excellent!  We only had 2 servers that were sided out on their first attempt and one was a net serve.  Mike K. led us in serving with 8 good ones and Alex H. had 7 with several aces.  Alex H. led in passing with 15 passes while Jake C. had 11, Spenser H. and Mike K. both had 7.  Alex H. led us in setting with 14 followed by Jake C. with 7.  We hit the ball very well this game and were led by Mike P with 20 and Marc G. with 5 - a super effort by both boys!

In the second game it was extremely close for quite awhile as we could not build a lead till the end.  We won 25 - 21.  We were up 4-1 after our first server then out of our next 5 servers, only protected 1 of our own serves and were sided-out 4 times with no points gained!  At that point they were leading 12-10 as we only sided them out twice without them scoring and gave 3 of their servers 2 scores each.  In the second round of servers, Marc G. got us going with 2 scores and Mike P. got us 3 scores on serve but 4 others sided-out with two of them net-serving.  We did save ourselves by siding them out every time except for 2 serves for the rest of the game, excellent!  After Mike P.'s serves we had a slim lead at 19-17 and went on to win.  We totaled 5 bad serves which helped to keep this game tight instead of taking a better lead.

We were led in serving by Marc G. with 8 and Mike P. with 4.  Passing was led by Marc G. and Spenser H. each with 6 and Mike K. with 5.  Setting was led by Alex H. with 11 and Jake C. with 10.  Once again we had a strong hitting game and were led by Marc G. with 11 and Mike P. with 7.  All of the boys played well though and contributed at different times.

In the third game, we won 25-2 with Mike K. serving 21 in a row without a miss !  A great feat.  Anthony B also put in his 3 in a row to secure the win in this game.  Passing was led by Marc G. with 2 and Anthony B. with 2.  Anthony B. also led in setting with 3.  Wyatt W. led in hitting with 3.  They boys played solid when they got to volley and did a great job of making 3 plays on the ball to get into hitting position.

A spectacular match overall and very well played by both our boys and the NT Catholic team!  The statistics for this match are found here.

St. Francis - Match 2

E-mail Print PDF

The boys played great again in this match.  We won all three games 25-2, 25-4 & 25-7.  I don't have much to write about as we really didn't touch the ball that much.  According to the stats somewhere between 40 & 50 of our serves did not come back over the net for us to play.

There were a some good rallys and I thought that the boys stayed focused even though it was tough to do.  We only missed 5 serves all day and were led on serving by Mike K. and Spenser H. although all of the boys did well.  If you check the stats, there were not a lot of passes, sets or hits to report.  That statistics for this match can be found here.

Nativity (B) - Match 1

E-mail Print PDF

We won this match pretty handily and again there was not a lot of statistics to put up.  We won the first game 25-2 and Mike K. placed his first 20 serves it without missing, Congratulations goes out for that!  Spenser H. and Jake C. each had 2 passes and Micheal S. had 4 sets while Marc G. had 3 hits, all for kill!  That was the entire stat line but a job well done by the boys.

In the second game we won that one 25-5.  Both Marc G. and Jake C. each had 8 good serves with Marc having 5 of those for ace.   Mike S. came along with 5 good one and 3 of those for ace also.  Passing was led by Mike S. and Alex H. both with 2 and Jake C. led us with 3 sets.  Mike K. stepped into the outside hitting role and led this game with 5 hits and 3 of those for kill for a super performance.

In the third game we won 25 - 8.  Spenser H. led with 8 good server, 4 for ace and Peter J. had 6 good with 2 for ace.  Passing was led by Spenser H. with 3, for hitting we had four different players all with 1 and Anthony B. and Spenser H. each had 2 sets to lead the team.

The boys played very efficiently tonight.  The statistics for this match are found here.
